Preferably I'd like to have access to something that is easy to learn how to configure. Is there another technology other than SAMBA that I can use for this? I need something that is cross-platform and free. Over the last roughly six years that I've trying this, I've had to resort to email, ftp or USB sticks to move files *to* my primary work machine. But no matter my configuration I cant figure out how to allow machines on the network to write *to* the shared folder. I can configure permissions on a folder so that it can be seen and written *from*. This sometimes works - in a limited sense. Either in KDE or Gnome I can hunt around the context menu for sharing options. I'd like to have a folder on that machine that can be shared from and written to.įrom time-to-time I try to use Ubuntu's built-in ability to share folders. Most of my work is done on an Ubuntu machine. Primarily I need to share files and folders between a linux machine and a mac. I need to share files between a number of devices in my office.
